Shangri La Hotel - Birthday Surprise

I booked this Shangri-La hotel package for a romantic birthday blast last year.  It costs me $550 for a night accommodation in the deluxe room which also including 2 courses in-room dining for two (from Altitude Restaurant), buffet breakfast at Cafe Mix, a bottle of Moet & Chandon Champagne on arrival, and a chocolate birthday cake.  What's more, they can arrange a rose bouquet at extra cost.  This deal was pretty good.  The best thing is their service, I mentioned to them to keep a secret from my hubby as this was a surprise and they really nailed it.  Here are the photo's on that special day.  Just another idea if you wanna spoil someone special.

In-room dining, I really like the sounds of it, more private and relaxing dining and you can stay as long as you like (but we were required to make a booking and chose the food prior).  It was the trolley that they used as our temporary dining table, sitting by the window and overlooking the beautiful Harbour.

The entrees and mains were inside the food trolley.  The delivery guy brought them to our room and set the table for us then leave the food to be served as your please.  So you can start your main meal anytime you like.

Complimentary Bread

Half dozen of fresh shucked Pacific Oysters with Shallot and red wine dressing
Those oysters were undeniably fresh but the dressing was the let down.  The red wine is overpowering the natural taste of oysters.  Better just having them with the juice of lemon.

Duck Spring rolls
This entree dish was much yummier than the oysters.  The spring rolls was deep-fried to the golden crisp and not too oily and greasy at all, the filling was loaded with duck meat and the housemade-hoisin sauce goes very well with it.

Caesar salad with poached egg  - side dish

Chicken Supreme
I can't really recall what was the taste like, but what I can remember that it was a roasted chicken dish wrapped with prosciutto and some steamed spinach on the bottom.  Taste wasn't that good probably that's why I forgot about them easily.

Barramundi Yellow Curry
This dish was amazing.  Barramundi is cooked to perfection and the curry sauce has right balance of taste and flavoursome with strong taste of spices and an enjoyable touch from the crunchy noodles on top.

Chocolate Cake
Well, we didn't have any dessert but we had the whole chocolate cake instead.  It came an hour after we had our meal, which was perfect as we felt pretty full with our yummy meals earlier.  I was expecting something more fancy and chic but turned out to be just an ordinary chocolate mud-cake and been coated with chocolate ganache then topped with white and pink-coloured chocolate shredded, ordinary but taste devine still.  We could not finish them all though, not for that 9 inch round cake in a night!!!!

Mini bar

Set of Jams for breakfast
