Phoenix Chinese Restaurant, Rhodes

One of my favourite Yum Cha place in Sydney.  This dynamic restaurant appear to be busy all the time especially on the weekend, be prepare to wait in the queue for about 20 minutes up unless you are lucky or otherwise rock up early when they just open their door.  No wonder that they have created  good reputation cos they always use fresh and high quality ingredients.  They serve range of traditional dim sum also got numbers of contemporary one as well.  And is not that pricey too, we only spent $160 for the six of us which include all of the food from pictured below.

Honestly speaking, I'm really not good in naming all of those dim sum dishes.  What I do normally just grab whatever that looks nice and appealing or else if they come in the bamboo steamer, I will stop the cart and just open the lid and have a look one by one cos even when the waitress telling me its name I don't understand anyway  lolzzz..

Deep-fried Taro and Prawn

Chicken Pie
The layered buttery pastry is so crunchy and nicely baked too with the load of creamy chicken filling, they just perfect together.

Can't remember what this was

Tempura Sushi
This dish looks very appetising but unfortunately it doesn't show much on the taste.  Even it wasn't that bad but was not that good too, pretty average sushi that deep-fried with tempura batter.  Probably this dish been in the cart for awhile, that's why they weren't hot and crunchy anymore.

Deep-fried Prawn on toast
Another a must-try dish to order in Dim Sum Restaurant, for me!!!  Prawn itself quite chunky and fresh that attached on the small squared bread and wrapped with wonton sheet then lightly deep fried.  It wasn't enough only 1 piece for me so we managed to grab one more serve of this.

Steamed Mushroom and Meat wrapped with Bean Curd Skin

Steamed Crab Meat wrapped with Cabbage

Sweet Pork like BBQ Pork but more saucy
This sticky honey pork dish could be the 'Hero' for the day..  They just extremely delicious and the pork was succulent and tender with the right sweetness flavour that surely tantalise your taste buds.

Fried Noodle

Pork Ribs
Another fantastic dish that we got for today.  It is a steamed pork rib with a hint of black bean and chilli.  Perfect combination that create a nice tasty dish.

Black Pepper Pork
My hubby loved this dish soooo muchhhhh. He kept on ordering and ordering.  So one portion is never enough I shall say.  This Mongolian style black pepper pork was way too delicious and we were even joking about getting some steam rice to soak up all the left over heavenly lip-smacking sauce.  Guyss .. it's so yummm.  Enough said ..  Lets move on ..

Wish I could take that cart home :)

 Grilled Pork
Another super tasty dish today.  The pork was lightly char-grilled so we can taste that smokey flavour while the meat itself still tender, juicy and so aromatic.

Shredded Beef Peking Style
I always love this Peking-style Shredded Beef, they were sweet and tasty.  Really works nicely together with Man Tao (Chinese Plain steamed bun).

Melon and Sago Soup
Rock Melon and Sago...  two ingredients that I never thought will be co-operate well together.  But since I tried this bowl of dessert, it completely change my mind.  It surprisingly good, natural sweet from melon and sago in the soup give them a texture like serious dessert.

Baked BBQ Pork Bun
This Baked BBQ Pork Bun, even can't compare to those that I had from Tim Ho Wan in Hong Kong but this the best bun that I could possibly find in Australia.  The bun was still warm and loaded with succulent BBQ Pork filling too.  Don't understand why the other dishes always come repeatedly but this bun is hardly been seen, it came once which nearly at the end of our meal.

Egg Tarts
Everytime I go for Yum Cha will never miss out on those flaky egg tart and as usual they never fail me.  Crumbly pastry with warm smooth and wobbly custard.  Really nice to finish the meal strong with the dessert like this ... to satisfy my sweet-tooth craving.

Day 12 - Tim Ho Wan and The Symphony of Lights

Before we went to Seoul airport, we bought this Hersey Milk Chocolate drink from 7eleven. Oh man!!! I'm falling in love from the first sip. If we have Lindt chocolate in OZ, in contrary they have this Hersey Milk Chocolate in Korea. Though I drink this icy choc drink in brutal cold weather outside but still enjoyable.

Now we back to Hong Kong to complete our journey strong. So, Octie Appetie...

With the Airport Express Train, we have to get off at Kowloon Station then hop in to the free airport shuttle bus number K4 and stop at Luxe Manor Hotel which just right opposite Kimberley Hotel.

Tim Ho Wan
2-8 Kwong Wah Street
Mongkok, Hong Kong
Open: 10am - 10pm

Tim Ho Wan is one of the Michelin restaurant that not gonna break your bank. This Cantonese-style dim sum restaurant house only 12 tiny tables, hence the queue is always incredibly long for all day. We know their reputation through the medias in Australia, so we put it on our top must-eat lists. and here we are waiting!!! we were told to arrive half an hour at least before the shop open to secure the table, somehow we end up there 3pm as we thought avoiding the peak hour but guess what!!! We still gotta wait for 40 mins to be seated.

Look at The Queue

Clockwise from left: Vermicelli roll stuffed with BBQ pork, Steamed fresh shrimp dumplings, Steamed tendon

Typical Yum Cha dishes that we normally could find in Australia but the different is the feeling when you having them in their own motherland, boost up the authentic taste like you can't imagine!!! Everything is freshly cooked and taste heavenly delicious. Service-wise, we all know that Chinese is very prompt when come to service and here again did not let us down.

Steamed spareribs with black bean sauce

Baked BBQ Pork Bun
This Baked BBQ Pork Bun was an absolute winner. The best bun I have ever eaten in my entire life. NO Joke!!! It is extremely good, the freshly baked bun that you can easily taste with a loaded of BBQ pork filling and topped with this crunchy sweet crumb like the one normally on the Chinese pineapple bun. How could I describe the yummyness of this bun literally??? Put it this way, I told my parent to try this while they're there, end up they bought this bun 3 times in only a week.

As we know that they do take away too, so in case if you really in rush you don't have to spend that long hour waiting but make sure to have the food while they're still hot otherwise it would taste totally different. However, the best of all is still to dine in and you will feel that the nature of waiting will make the food taste better (maybe).

Clockwise from top left: Steamed dumpling in chiu chow style, Steamed beefball with bean curd skin, Steamed pork dumpling with shrimp, and Tonic medlar & petal cake

We only spent about HK$ 131 (about AU$ 16.80) for 9 items. How good was that for Michelin Star Restaurant??? It would justify all the media praises. Except, we weren't quite satisfied with the dessert but lucky enough, we spotted this little bakery shop along the way and it absolutely made my day. They have heaps in varieties of sweets from Egg Tarts as cheap as HK$ 5 for 3 pieces to Almond Cake and not forget to mention about Banana Cake/Mochi as well and still plenty more.

Symphony of Light
When the night has come, it was the time to watch the lights show. To gain the best viewing spot, Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront is the place to be. The show is normally held every night at 8 pm and run for about 10 minutes. After that we went on to have a light dinner just around Tsim Sha Tsui.

Top: Stir Fried Noodle with Steamed Soya Chicken HK$ 43 and Bottom: BBQ Pork & Roast Pork with Rice HK$ 46

My husband ordered this stir-fried noodle but it was completely dry and bland. The sauce and those chilli powder sprinkled on top doesn't help lifting up the taste at all. On the other side, roast pork was nice but overall nothing exciting about them.
