On the way from Surabaya to Jember |
It takes about 4 or 5 hours driving from Surabaya to the little town on the east Java called Jember (depends on traffic, it could takes longer too). It may not be a tourism city, but this city is actually located nearby the White Beach or what we called Pasir Putih and is the area that you will be passing by if you are going to Bali via sea.

Although Jember is not a famous place to visit, however, I could find the best Sate Ayam (Chicken Satay) in here. Nice char-smelled chicken comes with tasty and rich peanut sauce then topped with chopped red onions and spicy chilli sambal. It is so yummm....

Terang Bulan/Martabak stall |
Martabak manis or for us who lives in East Java we called it Terang bulan, is the ONE that sit on top of my sweet lists. It is like a pancake with more thick and more dense texture. Also taste sweeter than pancake and filled with sweet things too like chocolate, peanuts, condensed milk, cheese or nowadays with optional fruits. This dessert is definitely for an extreme sweet tooth person. If you are, then this food taste absolutely heaven. If you can't handle too sweet then you might try cheese only feeling as the saltiness will cut through the sweet taste.

Terang bulan/ Martabak manis stalls always or most of the time sells Martabak telor as well. The savoury version. There are few different flavours to choose depends on the stall but the most common is beef, lamb and cornet beef.
On the way back to Surabaya, we decided to catch the train, which much faster because less traffic and more foods. Back in ten years ago, the train now is much cleaner, neater, safer and smoking is prohibited. However, it cause less outside food sellers to enter the train.
