Doi Tung Lodge, Chiang Rai

From Pai to Chiang Rai with Love and Charin Pie

The first night in Chiang Rai, we stayed at Doi Tung.  A resort in the highland of Mae Fa Luang, Chiang Rai.  This lodge is one of many Royal Development projects.  The lodge is very nice, clean and full of blooming flowers as well as tress.  The mountain view from up here is also breathtaking.  By the way, Northern Thai people are proud with their wood and they also have abundant of them.  Therefore, you normally will find lots of wooden furnitures and decorations in many hotels around here.

The next morning, we had our breakfast in their restaurant Krua Tamnak which is located outside main entrance.  You can walk up there or get the reception to call for hotel van.  What a lovely morning enjoying delicious breakfast outdoor with the kiss of morning sun and cool breeze.

From Pai to Chiang Rai with Love and Charin Pie

Previously:

Today's breakfast, we were asked to order in-room dining.  This was because there wasn't much guests in the hotel.  Their menu was pretty much the same with what we had yesterday, so I won't be talking much in details.  After breakfast, we got ready to drive long way from Pai to Chiang Rai, around 7 hours.

An ultimate curve

Charin Pie in Charin Garden Resort is a-must visit place whenever driving from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai or vice versa.  It is located halfway between these two cities and this restaurant offers good food and they are famously known for their delicious pies as well.  It made a perfect stop for a short break.

Look at how many types of pies they serve everyday.  The best one would definitely hands down to lemon meringue pie.  We had three pieces to share between the four of us.  We got chocolate pie, lemon meringue pie and also pecan pie.  We then brought another 3 pieces to take away which were pumpkin pie, lime key pie and the second piece of that scrumptious lemon meringue pie.

Their lemon meringue is very fine like something you can get from any great patisserie.  The base was super thin, the curd was good sour then balanced with soft sweet meringue on top.

Nothing much on this day, basically our day has nearly gone just on the road.  Wait until the next day, where we explored more of Chiang Rai city.

Day 1 of Northern Thai trip (part2): Golden Triangle

Previously:

After passing Chiang Rai city, we then headed up to further north where the three countries meet: Thailand, Laos and Myanmar.

In this triangle point, we can also across the river to visit Don Sao, a small province of Lao PDR.  Only a small market though, we didn't go too far.  However, it is an extreme market, beside selling Lao fabrics and souvenirs, they also selling animal infused liquor, if you guys interested.

Nice lunch along the Mekong river

Day 1 of Northern Thai Trip: Bhumibol Dam And Wat Rong Khun

I really can't get enough of Northern part of Thailand, my favorite holiday destination from all regions.  This family trip is taken around new year break.  Visiting main area like Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son.
First stop after a long drive last night was this Bhumibol Dam in Amphoe Sam Ngao district of Tak Province.  This dam is named after Thailand's King and is a beautiful arch dam on the ping river.  Then not far from there, there is a small local morning market, selling homey food, fresh fruit and vegetables.

Wat Rong Khun

Next stop and a must visit is this Wat Rong Khun.  It is like a white temple, painted in white and stick in pieces of glass that sparkling in the sun.  This temple is designed by a famous Thai artist, Chalermchai Kositpipat.  He had ever dreamed about heaven and then build this temple accordingly.  However, this temple is not finished yet, eventually there will be nine buildings in total.  So far for me, this temple is the most beautiful looking temple with white color and shining glasses, simply like heaven even I haven't seen one.
