Bear Meat Ramen and Hidagyu Maruaki, Takayama

For lunch, we ate at one of the shop that selling the boar and bear meat.  Yes!!!!  Bear meat for real.  When we ordered, we didn't pay a close attention.  And the picture looked nice and portion was huge too.  Once we got the dish in front of us, it was still looked very good but when we tasted it, we knew the meat was quite weird, unlike any meat we had ever tasted before.  We read again the menu and realized what we ordered was bear meat ramen,  The meat tasted very gamey, but the ramen itself very tasty.

Now move on to dinner.  At that night was our last night in Takayama, that's why we didn't want to miss the famous grilled hida beef BBQ while we were there.  This shop from the outside it is a butcher shop but when you go through inside it is a big BBQ restaurant.  They get the freshly cut meat from the butcher shop.  There were many people waiting in line already.  It is a grilling-your-own meat.  The beef sells in here is the premium quality of beef.  No marinated so purely sweet from their natural taste with just a little sprinkle of salt.  And it tasted absolutely delicious or you can dip it in the dipping sauce as well, if you prefer.  But I like my meat simple and no adding sauces.

The meat from the set meal (not too sure what grade) was already marbling but the A5 that we got was way more marbling.  It was actually more of white color than the red.  We like it grilled to medium rare so the meat still tender and juicy.  I think that's the best way to enjoy a good quality of cuts.

For one more night in Takayama, we stayed at the ryokan.  It called Oyado Koto No Yume, about 2 blocks further away from Best Western Hotel.  If you have a chance, please try staying at one of ryokan in Japan.  You will get the classic authentic Japanese services and futton bed.  It is definitely worth to experience.

As usual, they greeted us with a nice and friendly greetings.  Warm welcome accompanied with a cup of hot green tea and a bowl of warm red bean soup with mochi.  To warm our body from the chilly breeze out there.  After the check in process, we then need to choose our yukata.  There were ranges of different color.  They even had the small size for children as well.  So cute....

They have 2 type of rooms, the Japanese style or the Western style.  The Western style is more convenient for elderly with a standard western beds.

In day time, it is our lounge/dining room.  At night become futton bed

Early walk in the Miyagawa morning market

Today was an usual weekdays, so the market wasn't that busy and crowded.  Pretty chill and enjoyable morning walk.  This place is the place to buy some souvenirs and local products and snacks.  There are some restaurants and cafe that selling Japanese and Western style breakfast as well.

We picked the first shop that we passed by along the morning market.  By the time we arrived there was nearly 9 am and it was quite late for Japanese to have breakfast because some of the menu was sold out.  We had an ordinary grilled salmon meal for breakfast and (I'm not so sure what type of fish) steamed fish meal.  After that we went trying a few different snacks in there like this grilled meringue.  It was as soft as cloud and taste like grilled sweet meringue.

Then we saw this nice-looking cafe.  They serve range of coffees and classic red bean mochi.  They also made very very yummy homemade cookies (sorry, didn't have the photo of it).  Every cup of coffee came with a pack of cookie.  We bought some extra cookies after but they didn't have much only 4 or 5 packs left.  First come first serve basis, so better be quick.

Tenaga Ashinaga, Takayama

Previously:

Again, this Takayama trip was reminiscent of my previous trip.  So we tried to visit as much as places we did before.  The first dinner which was only me and husband at this Tenaga Ashinaga was delightful.  We just wanted to let our family try as well.  Straight after that Shirakawa-Go and Kanazawa trip, we went to this restaurant.  It is located just a block away from Kajibashi Soba shop (yesterday).  Not much changed from this restaurant compared to a couple years ago.  However, I think they have more menu options in the house and of course price (understandable though).

I went for the same menu, Hoba miso steak.  Although it looked slightly different but taste equally delicious with before.  I always prefer the meat in medium rare stage, so it will be very tender and melt-in-your-mouth.   Other people tried different food and they all were good.  The meal came with one complimentary drink from green tea to sake.

Shirakawa-Go

Previously:
Kanazawa & Shirakwa-Go (Part 1)

We made a short stop at Shirakawa-Go before caught the evening bus.  Shirakawa-Go is a UNESCO heritage.  The traditional low roof houses are preserved in this area.  It was a nice feeling to be able to see this place in different season.  First time we went there was in autumn and the second time it was end of winter.  But the snow was still covering the roof.  Some people said that winter is actually the best season to visit here.  As the touch of white snow gave a pretty contrast color to the roof and the town became very charming.  I believe all the seasons bring the charms in its time.  Should I visit all??  Have any of you ever visit this place in summer or spring?  And How was it?

However, the atmosphere around here wasn't that peaceful and quite like in the past.  So many tourists, too much tourists actually,  made us cannot fully enjoy the moment and the view.  I personally always prefer off the beaten track.
