La Mesa Restaurant, Sydney

There is a new Filipino restaurant openning in CBD.  I've never had Filipino food in a proper restaurant before.  Just tried bits and pieces from my Filipino's office colleague.  With this restaurant in city, it makes an easier access for me.  So here we are, digging their cuisine.

Okoy $7.50/4pieces
Deep fried patties made of shrimps, shredded sweet potato, carrots and pumpkin, served with chilli vinegar sauce

Adobo Chicken $16
The most popular Philippine dish of tender chicken fillets cooked in sugar cane vinegar, soy sauce, garlic and black pepper

Crispy Pata $20
Their signature dish; Deep fried pork leg with tender meat and crispy skin. served with a sauce of vinegar, soy sauce, garlic and onion

Escabeche $27
Fried barramundi topped with homemade sweet and sour sauce of sugar cane, vinegar, soy sauce, palm sugar, sliced ginger and onions

Kare Kare $21
Oxtail cooked in peanut sauce with pumpkin, eggplant and snake beans and served with bagoong, a Philippine shrimp paste

Bagoong - Shrimp paste
They mentioned that this Bagoong is to be eaten with Kare Kare, however for me, it's actually a nice compliment with most of their dishes as well.  Strong shrimp flavour and very tasty.

Medium Garlic Rice $8.50

Large Fried Rice $16

Left: Buko Juice $3.50 and Right: Halo Halo $8

Turon $4.50
Fried ladyfinger banana wrapped in pastry with sliced jackfruit

Ube Yam $4
Swettedned baked yam

Overall, we quite enjoy our Filipino dinner tonight.  The price was really reasonable too.  We totally love that garlic rice, match well together with the food.  We also like the Adobo chicken and crispy skinned pork leg.  And that Ube yam is definitely completed our meal on a high knot.  However, our fish was a little undercook, as the flesh was still sticking on the bones and pretty hard to fall off.
