Driving trip to Gold Coast from Sydney

We had a short driving trip to the North part of Oz which was around Coffs Harbour and Gold Coast for five days four nights.  We did an overnight stay in Coffs Harbour then spent the next two nights in Gold Coast after that on our last night, we slept in a small town called Laurieton.

What I remembered from our last road trip to Coffs Harbour ages ago, it took us nearly 8 hours drive from Sydney to Coffs Harbour but surprisingly, when we looked at the GPS this time, it said only five and half hours.  Not sure whether they have a new highway, or we are on a different route.

Between Sydney to Coffs Harbour, in Kempsey to be exact, there is this pie shop called Fredo pies.  They are famous with their pies, easily guessed, right!!  However, this time around, I noticed that they have much much less items and they don't seem like doing so well like they used to be in the past.

Their pies were still good but they burnt my ham and cheese croissant.  What a shame!!!

We were kinda in a tight budget, so we stayed at this Ibis Budget hotel for a night instead of a luxury hotel type thing.  Honestly, the place is not bad at all.   It is located right in the city centre and I like the bunk bed in the room although our AC was not working but not bothering us as the weather outside was even colder than an AC.

We had some Thai food that night but won’t mention it here in my post because I don’t recommend this restaurant, their food is totally the opposite of anything authentic and everything tasted too sweet.  We were so disappointed.

Early the next morning, we made a brief stop at the Clog Barn before heading to our next stop, Gold Coast.  It is free entry and you get to see the Holland miniatures and there is a cafe and shop selling souvenirs as well.

I think the pictures can speak for themselves.  The location is very easy to find, just along the Pacific highway.  Facilities offered from swimming pools, indoor and outdoor spas, tennis court, BBQ cabanas, beachfront deck, and private beach.  We are very satisfied with this place, will definitely recommended to people who wants to visit Coffs Harbour.

From Coffs Harbour takes about 3 hours to drive up to Byron Bay, the eastern most corner in Australia.  Famous with their surfing beaches.  The town itself more like a holiday town, full of tourists sunbathing and enjoying the nice sub tropical weather, also heaps of locals do so.

Drive a little further up to Byron Light House, very recommended if you are visiting Byron.  The view from track way up to the light house is amazing, especially in the nice sunny day like this.
